Toyota Pays Tribute to Jeremy Clarkson and Top Gear

JClrksntoyUniversal Toyota loved Top Gear! In honor of Sir Jeremy Clarkson, Toyota created a tribute video to showcase his incredible talent and humor. Well played, Toyota. Well played.

Toyota seems to love Jeremy Clarkson and what he did with and for the manufacturer on the Top Gear show. It has just released a small tribute video to the presenter showing “all his best bits” (that made them look good in the process).

Who could forget the Hilux destruction saga, or the more recent and deeply positive GT86 review, a car which you can drift while reading a book, according to Jeremy.

The Japanese automaker wasn’t in the least bit offended by his Corolla/refrigerator/washing machine lineup joke – arguably and objectively one of the best jokes he’s ever made on TV. It wasn’t on top gear, but another show he hosted called Clarkson’s Motor Years.

But don’t worry Toyota, Jeremy won’t sit on the sidelines for too long and before you know it he’ll be back to work. What kind of work and where? Well, we don’t know that yet and probably neither does he.

Images of what is believed to be the facelifted version of the ASEAN region Toyota Corolla Altis sedan have emerged on the web.

Offered in a number of Southeast Asian nations such as the Philippines as well as in India, the Altis is one of the many market-specific versions of Toyota’s popular Corolla compact sedan, and is almost identical (cosmetically) to the European model.

The undisguised pre-production car seen here has newly designed front and rear ends. The face incorporates Toyota’s “X” styling theme with a pointy front grille and what look like LED units on the new bumper’s corners.

At the back, this Altis has clear tail lamp graphics along with a redesigned bumper and a rear deck spoiler. Whether this is a regular or some kind of sports edition of the 2016 Corolla remains unknown, but we should find out soon.

Is This Europe’s 2016 Toyota Corolla Facelift, Asia’s New Corolla Hybrid Or Both?

After the facelifted Auris hatchback and Touring Sports models presented at the Geneva show this week, Toyota may be preparing an update for its other compact model, the Corolla sedan.

These screenshots were taken from a fresh set of animated videos from Toyota Europe showcasing the firm’s new range of advanced active-safety systems bundled under the ‘Toyota Safety Sense’ umbrella.

The animated car shown in all clips looks like a facelifted version of the European-spec Corolla sedan with a pointier new face and a bumper design modeled after the revised Auris. Some minor changes seem to have taken place at the back as well, including a slightly different chrome strip between the lights and a revised bumper.

More intriguingly, the instrument cluster shots clearly show a hybrid model gauge on the left hand side.

Toyota offers a number of market-specific Corollas with various styling and mechanical changes around the world, so if this isn’t the European model, the only other explanation we can think of is that it depicts the upcoming Corolla Hybrid with a 1.5-liter petrol engine assisted by an electric motor, reportedly designed for China and possibly, other Asian countries.

A big hat tip to Ayberk!

Refreshed Toyota Auris Receives New 1.2-Liter Turbo in Geneva

000At Universal Toyota we’re always looking ahead to strive for the best, technology-savvy improvements in vehicle history. Just recently at the Geneva Motor Show, Toyota unveiled the fresh-faced Auris, packed with technological enhancements and a shiny new face for Toyota! Visit us today to see our variety of sedans and fun new additions to your vehicle we have to make your life easier!

The Auris, Toyota’s answer to the VW Golf and Ford Focus, is finally starting to catch up to the leading pack as it receives its first downsized turbocharged petrol power plant. It’s a 1.2-liter unit and it’s part of a 14-strong new engine offensive planned by Toyota over the course of 2014 and 2015.

The engine is direct-injected and intelligent variable valve timing, as well. Power wise, it’s average in the sector of turbocharged 1.2s, putting out 115 hp but its torque figure is excellent, at 185 Nm; what’s more impressive is that the latter is delivered linearly between 1,500 and 4,000 where the torque curve is not a curve, but a straight line.

Equipping the Auris, the engine is capable of pushing it to 100 km/h or 62 mph in 10.1 seconds and on to a top speed of 200 km/h or 125 mph. Efficiency and emissions are also competitive: 4.7 l/100 km average (60 mpg UK / 50 mpg US).

It’s interesting to note that using the intelligent variable valve timing, the engine can decide to run in Otto or Atkinson cycles; as the manufacturer explains, “the latter is used in extremely low load conditions, when the intake valve remains open for a fraction of time, after the compression stroke has set in, allowing part of the gas charge to be pushed back into the intake. As a result, the effective compression stroke is shortened. Pumping losses are reduced, since the pressure on the piston is lower, and also the throttle valve can be opened wider.”

The refreshed Toyota Auris just debuted at the Geneva motor show, with a fresh face matching the rest of the range, this new turbo engine and several mechanical and interior enhancements too.
