More and more, people over the last couple of decades have come to realize just how true Toyota’s old slogan “I love what you do for me” is holding up. The proof is in the pudding, as Toyota has become one of the world’s best selling car brands, and continues to lead the market in developing economical and reliable vehicles.
When Toyota last redesigned its Yaris subcompact, the company launched the remarkably frank “It’s a CAR!” marketing campaign. We weren’t impressed with the campaign, but the sportified SE model did finish third out of six in a subsequent cheap-car comparison test-pretty good for being “just a car.” For 2015, Toyota has restyled the Yaris inside.

Toyota plans to develop a family of new, more fuel-efficient gas engines over the next few years, hoping to improve its vehicles’ fuel economy by 30 percent. While Toyota will not neglect its hybrids, the company needs to update its gas engines, according to Automotive News. According to the EPA,Toyota’s average fleet fuel economy last year was 25.2 mpg, down slightly from 25.4 in 2010.

Toyota Motor Corp.’s (NYSE: TM) Camry held onto the spot as the top-selling car in America by besting competition again in June. Camry sales rose 13.4% to 40,664 and were 7.2% higher for the year to date at 225,400. In a market that continues to be ruled by pickups, Camry has nearly caught the number two pickup in the market, General Motors Co.’s (NYSE: GM) Chevy Silverado.
